Mid Norfolk Railway 1940s weekend.
This year we are back with a full size event with displays and vehicles at Dereham station, Yaxham and Wymondham Abbey station.
There will be parking at Dereham station, and additional parking will be available at Neatherd High School ( 10 mins walk from the station )
Location
Mid Norfolk Railway - Dereham, Yaxham,Hardingham and Wymondham
Located in the heart of Norfolk and close to the centre of Dereham, for a detailed map, then click here , we also have displays at Yaxham station, where you can have a look around the light railway and drive one of the trains for £5, teas and cakes will also be available.
Day overview
Displays and events are taking place at 3 Stations along the line throughout the weekend.
9am: The event opens.
Displays and Stalls are based at Dereham station, have a look round and then catch a train to Yaxham, Hardingham or Wymondham.
Dereham - Our main station will be transported back the 40s with displays of equipment, Vehicles and characters from the Period.
At 1100hrs and 1500hrs there will be a firepower demonstration of Allied weapons at Dereham.
The Blitz experience will be running an Immersive experience showing films of the London Blitz .
Visit the station museum and lots of displays from the 1940s
The Home Guard platoon will be around causing Chaos and mayhem as usual.
Yaxham - (1940) is transformed into a station under the control of the British Expeditionary Force near Dunkirk, they are holding the line against the advancing Germans and are constantly under fire. The Light Railway will be open so you can look at the trains up close and even drive one for a small fee of £5, do take time to have a look round, then back on the train to continue your journey.
Hardingham - The Germans have occupied this station, do have a look at the displays and have a bite to eat.
Wymondham Abbey field - Beer tent, Displays, Entertainment and food, its all happening at Wymondham station this year with lots to see and do.
5pm: The event closes at all the stations.
Displays
Some great displays can be found at our stations with living history specialist and re-enactors.
Stalls
Stalls can be found at Dereham station, a wide range of collectables, treasures, militaria and fashions.
Re-enactments
1100hrs and 1500hrs: Our firepower demonstrations take place on the platform at Dereham station.
Throughout the day there will also be small skirmishes and displays at our stations.
